Bazza of BlogCut.com, a site that provides Free Wordpress Themes and some premium ones, is the latest victim for this blog interview section ;).
I’ve known Bazza for some time now ever since we met at a web developement forum, he is not just a designer but also and avid fan of Manchester United, a club i support too.
BlogCut and this blog of mine started almost at the same time, i’m glad to have a friend who loves Wordpress too and have channelled his passion through BlogCut.
1.How long have you been using Wordpress?
My first experiance with WordPress was back in 2005, it was for a small
personal blog that didn’t last too long it was more of an experiment
just to see what all the fuss was about and to give WordPress a try for
myself. Obviously I thought it was great!
Since then I’ve never looked back, WordPress all the way!
2.Why the name “blogcut”?
The idea behind the site is about more than just providing themes - it’s
about helping blogs “make the cut” in other words helping new bloggers
to run a succesful blog, weather that be in terms of profits, quality
content or just setting up a first time blog it doesn’t matter every
blogger has his/her own goals and BlogCut want to provide a helpful
service.
By providing articles, free themes and some high quality premium themes
we aim to help all bloggers make the cut and thats pretty much how the
name came about.
3.Have you used another blogging platform before WP…if yes than why
the switch to WP?
I have looked at other blogging platforms but never actually used any
for a live blog, simple reason bein that WordPress can do everything you
need a blog to do and if it doesn’t you can garuntee there will be a
free plugin that can make it do it. Thats another thing I love about
WordPress the whole WordPress community is great, WP useres realy do
want to help other WP users, it’s great.
4.Have you contributed anything to the WP community? (Themes/Plugins/etc)
I offer some basic free themes on http://blogcut.com and plan to release
several more for free use. I also offer Premium Themes which while they
are not free they are cheap and are of, in my opinion, amazing qaulity.
The idea behind offering premium themes is to simply give bloggers the
option to have a really top notch theme that there visitors will
probably have never seen before without havenning to spend hundreds of
dollars.
5. What do you think is the best feature in WP 2.1?
Tough question, WordPress has a lot great features. If we were talking
about just the features that are new in version 2.1 I think autosave is
a very handy little feature, can save a lot of fuss when writing long
posts. I also think the option to have a static homepage is great as it
allos you to use WordPress as a lot more than just a blog, it then
starts to become a complete CMS which just goes to show the versatility
of the software.
6. Name 5 plugins that are your fav.
I’m not so sure about what would be my favourite plugins as I think it
depends on what type of blog you are using it for. I’ll list the 5 most
importan plugins that I use on BlogCut:
e-commerce lite - This is the plugin
I use to handle the sale of premium themes.
Contact Form ][ - I
think every blog should have a contact form. I’m actually suprised it
hasn’t been made a standard feature yet.
Akismet - Ok it’s a standard plugin but it works great and should always
be used in my opinion.
Feedburner Plugin - Good way
to get all your subscribers into feedburner so you can keep track.
Sitemap Generator - Does exactly what it says, it’s customizable too which is great. I
haven’t yet added this to BlogCut though, it’s on my to-do list.
7. Name a few bloggers that uses WP to power their blog.
WordPress bloggers are everywhere, there are millions of us. Matt
Coddington uses it, Dave Jakowenko at
uses it, there’s Bryan Le -
the list could go on and on, personally I visit ALOT of WordPress
poewered blogs. I mentioned these three because not only are they all
great blogs but I could remember how to spell their URL’s without
having to open FireFox
**Interviews:
Basically my selection of bloggers to interview mainly boils down to what powers their blog, if they are using Wordpress than odds are they will be interviewed one day or another, I’m always on the lookout for bloggers to interview so if your a Wordpress user please join my community and chances are you might be next on the interview list.
