Today is Chinese New Year in my country and i would like to wish those who celebrate it a very happy and prosperous new year, and since today (and tommorrow) are designated as public holiday i decided to watch a movie with my friends, in fact it was back to back - Sweeney Todd and Meet The Spartans.
Meet The Spartans is a total mockery of 300 (Sparta), but i guess it’s pretty ok since it’s a comedy movie but don’t expect quality type jokes, the whole movie revolves around slapstick comedy and a poke at popular culture, so you will definitely see names like Britney, Paris Hilton, American Idol and more, a fairly average movie and sort of the spoofs type clips you see on YouTube except the producers here had a little more money to spent.
Sweeney Todd however was a whole different matter, it’s dark cinematography is brilliant and works so well to enhance the storyline as you would expect from a Tim Burton movie.Johnny Depp is one of my favourite actors because of the roles he chooses to play, he really is a different sort of actor and i must say i enjoyed Sweeney Todd imensenly, however it’s best to leave your child at home as the amount of blood spilling eveywhere was even too much for some adults in the cinema i was in.
The story revolves around a barber who returns to London after 15 years for revenge on those who placed him in prison and stole his wife and daughter, Helena Bonham Carter also did an excellent job beside Depp, but be warned though that there’s a whole lot of singing involve is this movie, too much for my liking but overall the movie was good.
Did you get a chance to watch Swenney Todd or Meet The Spartans? what was your opinion about the movie?
